The 18 newly described strains of enterococci and E. faecalis and E. faecium from Czech Collection of Microorganisms (CCM) and previously identified 35 strains from birds gut were analyzed by sequencing of partial sequence of sodA gene. This gene encodesthe manganase-dependent superoxid dismutase and its sequencing allowed us to identify all the strains to the species level. This study proved that sequencing of sodA gene is the fast and cheap method for species identification of enterococci.
