Original language description
The study provides a general presentation of the main current methods applied to the slaughter of farmed decapod crustaceans. Furthermore, some considerations on pain and welfare of these crustaceans are referred. In spite of increasing of major crustaceans farming, stunning and slaughter methods have not harmonized. The authors point out the literature that confirmed the capacity of decapods to experience pain; therefore, it should be appropriate to adopt the European requirements on crustaceans welfare during stunning and slaughter.
