Atypical antipsychotics(AAP) are basis for treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and other diseases. But AAP, olanzapine in particular, are also often associated with metabolic adverse effects such as weight gain, obesity, dyslipidemia and impairment of glucose metabolism. Causeof these adverse effects is not yet fully discovered.In the last few years hypothesis of possible involvement of adipokines (hormones of the fat tissue) has been proposed.
