Infrared spectroscopy and thermal analysis were used for the characterisation and determination of silicon oxide content in trade solutions of sodium silicates. The transmission method (KBr-tablet) was used for the characterisation of alkali silicates and the reflectance method (ATR-attenuated total reflectance) was used for quantitative determination of silicon oxide.
