Ultimate human goals in Comenius and modern pedagogy

  • Original language description

Can school and education "produce" authentic humanity? Can a human being be "humanised"? Why do we need any humanisation? What does it mean to be human in the first place? This book attempts to deal with these questions. It is a positive elaboration of the problem of humanisation via educational means. It demonstrates that contemporary education's failure to achieve that goal is related to anthropological reductionism, which does not take into account the transcendent dimension of humanity. The modern notion of pedagogy is contrasted with that of Comenius, which assumes such an anthropology, thus offering the very element contemporary education lacks.
