Large Scale Cellular Automata with NL2OCL
Original language description
This article is focused on creating large-scale cellular automata in NetLogo. It presents results of continuous development of NetLogo-to-OpenCL extension (NL2OCL) which encapsulates function-ality of OpenCL and enables NetLogo to undertake agents’ computations simultaneously on graphic processor units. We present a parallelized model of evacuation of space with one exit. As a part of the implementation we propose a new lock-free data structure which enables a smooth paralleliza-tion of reasoning of competing agents in hexagonal lattice. In comparison to square lattice, the hex-agonal representation provides more realistic simulation of movement. With NL2OCL, the model of 100 000 pedestrians reaches 100 times better simulation speed performance in comparison to a na-tive NetLogo speed. The model is applicable in our further research of sustainable tourism, namely in modeling of visitors flows.
