Original language description
Mobile devices are becoming more common among adults when compared to the traditional desktop computers. In order to make the students motivated to learn a foreign language and tailor learning materials to their needs, foreign language teachers with the help of the faculty programmers at the University of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic have decided to develop and implement a smartphone application (app) for teaching English to the students of Management of Tourism (MT). Firstly, the literature on the topic, i.e., on the use of smartphone apps in the teaching and learning process is reviewed. Its purpose is to detect the areas of English skills and knowledge that would remain as the most appropriate feature to learn via the smartphone app. Secondly, the solution for the development of a smartphone app for the students of MT is described and its advantages and disadvantages are highlighted. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
