Educational Path in Social Exclusion
Original language description
This chapter discusses the options for inclusion in settings defined by social exclusion. How is an inclusive approach reflected in local politics in socially excluded localities? What does it mean to live in social exclusion or in a socially excluded locality and what impact does living in a socially excluded locality (SVL) have on an individual’s educational career? Stigmatization linked to the individual’s place of residence and his/her appearance, which make him/her excluded, certainly plays a role. The understanding of individuality in the family, differences in ways of socializing and educational activities play crucial roles. This chapter is based on ethnographic research conducted in 2005–2018 in Roma socially excluded localities and supplemented by interviews on education with Roma students, their parents, educated Roma and educational staff in 2016–2020. We are still in contact with the key informants and monitor current developments in the socially excluded localities and in adjacent areas.
