This article focuses on the issue of the selection of candidates for the parliamentary and the presidential elections that took place during the existence of the Fourth Republic of Ghana (from 1992 until present). The subject matter of the research is the two main political parties of Ghana (the NDC and the NPP), which we analyse and compare through the analytical framework of G. Rahat and R.Y. Hazan. We will examine the openness of the selection process of candidates - and therefore the openness of theparties as well - for the citizens of Ghana and/or different segments of society
