Analysis of the placement strategy of rondels in the cultural landscape
Original language description
This research examines circular enclosures, the so-called rondels of the Stroked Pottery culture (SBK) from the Late Neolithic in the region of Hradec Králové in eastern Bohemia. More have been recorded in recent time thanks to the use of aerial archaeological prospection. We have discovered a system of approximately 11 rondels, although we are aware that they may not have coexisted. This is the most dense concentration of rondels in Central Europe. We have discovered their regular distribution on the edge of the right terrace of the Elbe river. Some of them were, however, constructed on the slopes but always near the rivers. We assume that there were pathways in the Neolithic along the rivers and that the rondels were situated in the central settlements of the SBK.
