Virtual Dissection as a Digital Technology Application Used in Education - From the Results of Research Studies
Original language description
Digital applications increasingly pervade almost all human activities including education. We can notice a higher frequency of computer simulation implementations in education of biological, medical and pharmaceutical areas, e.g. real dissection alternatives, which still represent a traditional part of experimental activities in these areas. A computer dissection simulation, alias virtual dissection, provides in some aspects comparable and often better study results than real dissections. Despite this, pupils and students evaluate lessons using such modern teaching aids quite sceptically because they are influenced by a number of factors. One of the most essential factor is represented by teachers who still prefer real dissections. In our research study, we deal with the analysis and presentation of research results focused on implementation of the real dissection and its digital alternatives in biology, science subjects, and for comparison in medical and veterinary areas. We also focus on students' and teachers' attitude toward these applications and the effectiveness of such applications in education process. The research study results indicate that dissection alternatives are unable to replace adequately the real dissection. As a result, reasonable combining of both seem to be most effective.
