SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT
Original language description
Slovakia is one of the most agrarian European countries. The Republic of Slovakia has undergone some important structural changes in rural regions. Downsizing in number of employees in the field of agriculture, splitting diversified agricultural companies, setting the market with agricultural commodities free and opening it to other countries urged Slovakia start a large transformation in the agriculture, that has been still carried out. The common agricultural policy of the EU is set up for the former, initial EU member countries. This is the reason why a lot of agricultural products are imported to Slovakia from the initial EU countries. The employment rate in the Slovak agriculture has dropped and many businesses affiliated with the agriculture have closed down. This has resulted in loosing jobs in the rural area.
