    Potential differences between real-life and randomized controlled trial populations in chronic myeloid leukemia

    Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) are the cornerstone of evidence-based medicine. Their findings shape everyday clinical practice by guiding the development and use of new therapeutic agents, improving patient outcomes, and forming the basis of evidence-based clinical guidelines. To ensure that these findings are robust and reliable, strict adherence to study protocols is essential. During the screening process, patients must meet all inclusion criteria and none of the exclusion criteria. This methodology helps to protect vulnerable populations-such as those with significant comorbidities or on concomitant medication-and ensures data consistency and validity. However, such stringent selection criteria may exclude many patients typically seen in daily practice, resulting in underrepresentation of real-world populations, and risk introducing inadequate generalizability of the trial results.
