Original language description
Ultraviolet radiation research: from the ?eld to thelaboratory and backThe interest in the effects of increased ultraviolet-B (UV-B)radiation at ground level that was stimulated by stratosphericozone depletion has waned partly thanks to the success of theMontreal protocol in reducing the production and release ofozone-depleting substances, particularly chloro?uorocarbons(CFCs). Nevertheless, the future evolution of UV-B climatol-ogy still presents uncertainties at the global, regional andlocal scales (UNEP 2015). CFCs are not the only cause ofstratospheric ozone depletion, and stratospheric ozone is notthe only determinant of UV-B irradiance, so it remains dif?-cult to predict future UV climatology. At the regional scale, changes in cloudiness and/or aerosols, and the redistributionof ozone due to changes in atmospheric circulation patterns, are expected to affect UV irradiance in, thus far, uncertainway.
