The study evaluates suitability of different integral transforms for scientific image data coding. The Karhunen-Loeve transform has been introduced. As shown this method is more competent for accurate photometric measurements. A convenient coding algorithm of the discrete Karhunen-Loeve transform is presented and analyses of this transform parameters have been conducted.
