Temporal downflows in a penumbra
Original language description
Following the discovery of penumbral downflows of the same polarity as the sunspot umbra, we use the Hinode spectropolarimetric data that allow us to study the temporal behavior of these structures. The repetitive scan of a narrow penumbral region with one minute cadence is used. We identified 181 downflows with lifetimes mostly around two or three minutes. About 20% of the downflows is related to the chromospheric brightenings. The downflows are also related to the disappearance of nearby upflow regions. This relation is dependent on the lifetime of the downflows with maximum of 60% for those lasting for 6 minutes.
