Improving methodological strategies for statellite cells counting in human muscle during ageing.
Original language description
Stereological methods were developed for estimating frequency of satellite cells in skeletal muscles and tested in autopsy samples of young vs. old human vastus lateralis muscles. The number of satellite cells per fibre length as well as the percentage of satellite cell nuclei in all muscle nuclei declined during aging. Still, the two parameters cannot be substituted one by the other because the number of nuclei per fibre length tends to be increased during aging.
