Flow behaviour and structure of coarse-grained slurries in pipe
Original language description
The understanding of the slurry flow behaviour makes possible to optimize energy requirements, to improve quality, safety, economy and reliability of transport and/or processing of the transported material. Flow behaviour of coarse-grained slurry dependson particle size, shape, density and concentration. The present paper describes results of experimental investigation of the model coarsegrained particle-water mixtures on a re-circulation pipe loop. Graded pebble gravel and glass balls of mean diameters d50 = 6 mm conveyed by water in smooth stainless steel pipes of inner diameter D = 36 mm were studied experimentally. The effect of slurry velocity and particle concentration on pressure drop was evaluated. Particle distribution in the pipe cross section and particle motion along the pipe bottom, particle saltation and suspension in the carrier liquid were investigated in transparent pipe section and motion of individual particles was described.
