Oblique impacts of non-rotating spheres
Original language description
The paper deals with an experimental investigation of impacts of non-rotating spherical particles with a flat surface. By means of the PIV method velocity fields around falling spheres were analyzed. It is shown that the wake formed behind the particle which obliquely impacts is asymmetrical and after the impact the wake continues its motion to the surface but only along one side of the particle. This non-symmetrical velocity field results in additional forces which push the particle to the opposite direction than is the direction of the particle motion just after the impact.
