Modified graded-index fibers for chemical sensing.

  • Original language description

This paper deals with the detection properties of PCS fibers and IGI fibers with parabolic and linear refractive-index profiles excited with an inclined collimated beam. These properties were determined by measuring changes of the output optical power induced by immersing the fibers in mixtures of n-butanol and benzyl alcohol. The experimental data show that the detection sensitivity increases in the order of PCS fibers, IGI fibers with linear profiles and IGI fibers with parabolic profiles.
