A close look to subthreshold kinetic emission from clean metal surfaces: surface-assisted kinetic emission and petential excitation of plasmons.
Original language description
It has been shown experimentally and theoretically that the expected sharp onset of kinetic electron emission (KE threshold) is actually smeared out. This has been explained by a partial localization of the quasi-free target electrons due to their partially atomic-like wave functions because of the presence of the surface. This gives the explanation of the observed low energy electrons as a nonclassical effect.
