Optical sensors based on spectroscopy of localized surface plasmons on metallic nanoparticles: Sensitivity considerations
Original language description
Article presents theoretical analysis of sensitivity of SPR sensors based on spectroscopy of localized surface plasmons (LSP) on metallic nanoparticles. Formulas for bulk and surface refractive index sensitivity with particle parameters are derived usingthe electrostatic approximation and Mie theory. Figures of merit for SPR sensors using LSP and propagating surface plasmons (SP) are calculated and compared. Performance of sensors with LSP is shown to be inferior to sensors with SP.
