    Weaned rabbits received a bacteriocin-producing strain EK 13 of Enterococcus faecium. The strain was freeze-dried and added to drinking water. Faecal samples were analysed. The strain grew well in the rabbit digestive tract. Its counts reached 7.1 +/- 2.6 log10 cfu/g after four weeks, and 5.6 +/- 2.3 log10 cfu/g two weeks after the end of the strain application. In faeces of treated rabbits counts of Escherichia coli were significantly reduced, as well as counts of enterobacteria. There was no effect ofthe probiotic strain on zootechnical parameters, with exception of non-significantly higher feed intake in treated animals.

    Probiotický kmen Enterococcus faecium EK 13 produkující bakteriocin byl podán v pitné vodě králíkům po odstavu. V trávicím traktu se dobře pomnožil, jak svědčí nález 7,1 +/- 2,6 log10 cfu/g po 4-týdenním podání a 5,6 +/- 2,3 log10 cfu/g za 2 týdny po jeho ukončení. U pokusné skupiny králíků byly významně nižší počty Escherichia coli a enterobakterií. Zootechnické parametry nebyly probiotikem ovlivněny, vyjma nesignifikantního zvýšení příjmu krmiva v pokusné skupině.
