Original language description

This article describes two skeletons bearing morphological indications of leprosy from a cemetery at Žatec in North-West Bohemia (Czech Republic). The archaeological context clearly shows that these individuals were buried prior to the second decade of the 12th century, and most probably in the second half of 11th century. Diagnosis was confirmed by DNA analysis. The findings indicate, that leprosy existed prior to the Crusades in medieval Bohemia, albeit that its prevalence was probably not as great asin northern or western Europe.

Czech description

Práce popisuje dva kostrové nálezy s paleopatologickými příznaky onemocnění leprou pocházející z pohřebiště v Žatci (západní Čechy). Oba nálezy jsou archeologicky datovány do období před druhým desetiletí 12. století, pravděpodobně do druhé poloviny 11.století. Nálezy jsou dokladem existence onemocnění v Čechách před obdobím křížových výprav. Oba paleopatologické nálezy byly ověřeny DNA analýzou.
