Original language description
The town of Prague-Hradčany has served as the material and social base for the Bohemian monarch and his court at Prague Castle since the Middle Ages. The authors focus on research of the transformations caused by a great fire in this region in 1541. During this disaster, a large part of the residence burned down, as well as many houses in the vicinity. The newly available building space created the conditions for the emergence of a new architectural appearance of the town of Prague-Hradčany and its social structure. The authors investigate the problem of diversification or unification by comparing the development before and after the great fire, when the process of transforming Hradčany into a residential town accelerated.
