Gli autori medievali descrivono la lamia ancora attraverso altri attributi e il termine significa anche il demonenotturno, un predatore sconosiuto, una iena, un nefasto volatile notturno, un tipo di animale domestico e le donne o i mostri marini con zampe di cavallo.
