Original language description
In 1883, Carl Stumpf, at that time a professor of philosophy in Prague, published the first volume of his groundbreaking Psychology of Tones. In this work he applied Brentano’s deskriptive psychology which anticipated many concepts of Gestaltpsychology in the field of static and genetic researches concerning our experience of tones a chords. In 1890, second volume followed. With the approaching publication of the first English translation of the first volume of Psychology of Tones, it is only fitting to dedicate the workshop on Carl Stumpf to a discussion and analysis of this work in relation to its content and its contemporary value.
