Role-Sensitive Approaches to Political Compromise
Original language description
The workshop advanced a role-sensitive understanding of political compromise by showing how different actors—negotiators, mediators, arbitrators, citizens, and affected third parties—shape both the process and the ethics of compromise. Through conceptual, normative, and empirical contributions, participants demonstrated that compromise dynamics change depending on who is involved and how influence, responsibility, and exposure to outcomes are structured. This role-focused lens expands existing theories of compromise, offers a sharper framework for evaluating democratic decision-making, and supports more inclusive and reflective political practice.
