    SMG7 protein which plays an evolutionarily conserved role in nonsense-mediated RNA decay (NMD) in animals and yeast is essential for the progression from anaphase to telophase in the second meiotic dividion in Arabidopsis. Experimental data indicate thatSMG7 counteracts cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) activity at the end of meiosis showing a novel link between SMG7 and regulation of the meiotic cell cycle.

    Protein SMG7, který u živočichů a kvasinek hraje evolučně konzervovanou roli v mechanismu detekujícím nonsens mutace a tím brání expresi chybně translatovaných proteinů (NMD), je nezbytný pro přechod z anafáze do telofáze druhého meiotického dělení u Arabidopsis. Ukázali jsme, že SMG7 se jako protihráč cyklin dependentních kináz může podílet na regulaci meiotického buněčného cyklu u rostlin.
