In situ trapping of hydride forming elements within miniature electrothermal devices useful for atomic spectrometry methods.

  • Original language description

Prototypes of miniature devices for in situ collection of hydride forming elements were designed, based on electrothermal vaporizers equipped with bare and modified graphite materials and refractory metals (molybdenum, tungsten). Optimization of trappingefficiency of analytes (As, Sb, Se) with respect to the geometry of the vaporizer, the type of material used and its treatment by various modifiers (noble metals ů Au, Ir, Pt, Rh), to the influence of the composition of carrier and stripping gases and related gas flow rates, to analytical figures of merit and the analytical lifetime of the vaporizers was investigated. Possible basic processes of trapping and related inter-element interference effects were also studied. In addition to results of atomicabsorption spectrometric measurement, data of complementary radiotracer and radiography experiments were also obtained in order to provide information about the net trapping efficiency and spatial distribution of analytes in the trap.
