Raman spectrometry: Sensitive tool for sample mapping?
Original language description
Raman spectrometry is an optical method, which monitors the vibrations of molecules. As such, the Raman spectra encode the structure of the analytes and can be used for unequivocal analyte identification. While traditional Raman measurements are well-established for highly concentrated samples, they lack in the analyses of trace components. The presence of nanostructured plasmonic metal boosts remarkably the sensitivity via the effect of surface enhancement. In this work, we use a sputtering process for the feasible formation of homogeneous silver nanolayers acting as a reliable metal substrate. Such nanostructures are well-suited for the analysis of liquid samples and more interestingly, their deposition on the solid planar samples can open a way for their SERS-based chemical mapping.
