Creep in copper processed by equal-channel angular pressing
Original language description
This paper examines the effect of equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) on creep behaviour of pure copper. The experiments showed that ECAP has reduced the average grain size to 400 nm.It was found that ECAP passes have resulted in enhancement of creep life in comparison with the initial unpressed state of material. The pressed material exhibits the highest creep resistance after the first ECAP pass. However, successive ECAP passes lead to a noticeable decrease in the creep properties. The activation energy of creep and the stress exponent of the minimum creep rate were determined. It was found that a change in the value of the stress exponent of the minimum creep rate n occurs after 4 ECAP passes which can be explained by the transformation of microstructure from coarse-grained state to ultrafine-grained one. The detailed analysis suggests that creep occurs in the pressed specimens through a conventional intragranular process involving the glide and climb of dislocations.
