Influence of particles on work hardening strain and recovery strain
Original language description
Inelastic deformation of crystalline materials leads to accumulation of defects causing work hardening. Defect recovery is also associated with generation of inelastic strain. Jump like stress reductions are a means to separate work-hardening strain fromrecovery strain. A considerable contribution to recovery strain comes from recovery of boundaries of low-and high-angle type. The question is, how particles of foreign phase influence the kinetics of the two strain contributions, in particular the recovery strain. It is shown for particle hardened Cu-Zr that particles increase the strength by raising the resistance to straining of the work hardening type. We show that the recovery strain is significantly suppressed by particles. The resultant particlestrengthening effect therefore results not only from interaction of gliding dislocations with particles, but is dependent on the effect of the particles on the recovery strain, in particular the recovery strain component resulting from cr
