Existence of defects (such as cracks, pores, inclusions etc.) in steel structures is nearly unavoidable and therefore, ninvestigations on their behaviour and the structural integrity of the structure are necessary. Additionally, it is observed that nsuch defects can interact with corrosion pits, which are important consequences of the other phenomenon related to steel nstructures. Therefore, this paper is devoted to a study on the influence of the corrosion pit on fatigue crack propagationnunder mixed-mode I/II loading conditions. A rectangular bar subjected to remote tensile loading is modelled numerically nby means of the finite element method and principles of the linear elastic fracture mechanics are applied. Several nconclusions are stated on the effect of individual parameters varied within the study on the crack propagation. More nextensive studies are intended in the field of crack deflection etc.
