Original language description
The discovery of two central burial grounds at Kyjov and Mušov, which represent the largest known cemeteries in the whole Middle Danube region including south-western Hungary, has considerably changed existing ideas regarding population density in Southern Moravia and the significance of this area at the time of the Elbe-Germanic migrations across Europe. The newly obtained, chronologically relevant finds indicate contacts with Central Germany and allow to assume that these cemeteries were already established in the first (so-called Thuringian) phase. During the following (so-called Danubian) phase, which is considered the heyday of cultural development of the Elbe-Germanic gentes in our territory, social elites emerged and in the area north of the Danube are represented by rich graves from Šakvice, Hauskirchen or Žuráň.
