The hierarchy and usage of landscape of the area of the Morava river bank and the socio-economic organization of the Great Moravian society

  • Original language description

The primary objective of presentation was to present a research into the interactions between the Great Moravian centres and their economic hinterland and landscape. A very important aspect of this research is that, for the first time, we combined multiple sets of data from several institutions. This step allows us to understand numerous factors and the resulting causal relationships between settlement units and the natural environment. The methods applied in the studies were built on spatial analyses in the GIS application (centrality, availability, visibility analysis etc.), as well as on more comprehensive archeological prediction models. Other important tools in our search for causal relationships were exploratory statistical analyses (FA, PCA). These processes were used to formulate our theoretical models.
