New excavation at Stránská skála summit site-cluster
Original language description
Stránská skála is known as an outcrop of a good quality lithic raw material – the Stránská skála-type chert. The new excavation is located ca 42 m to the north from the northwestern corner of site IIIa with similar stratigraphy, 40 m to the northwest from SS IIIc, and 80 m to the east from site IIIb (Fig. 1). In conclusion, this small-scale excavation has produced evidence of a Paleolithic artifact cluster extending to the north and indicating a high potential for Paleolithic research in future years. Isolated Paleolithic artifacts were also identified within the material excavated from the pit infill, and other in situ Paleolithic artifacts were found during cleaning its lowermost part. We realized a small-scale excavation aimed at documenting the artifacts in their in their original stratigraphic position. We opened a 2×1.5 m trench adjacent to the Bell Beaker feature.
