Examples of great cross-border floods in Central Europe and lessons learnt (case studies of floods from September and November 1890 on the occasion of their 120th anniversary)
Original language description
Seeing that extreme historical floods affected usually at the same time territories of multiple countries, their research and comparison are possible only on the basis of a long-term international cooperation. Only knowledge from more affected countriesgenerate complex image about their significance and impacts. It is related also to two catastrophic floods which occurred in the Central Europe in 1890: in September and then again in November. Both floods affected more Central European countries at onceand thus were cross-border floods. Whereas events in September 1890 were documented in details already in the past, the catastrophic flood in November 1890 is today in the Czech Republic practically without the attention of specialists. Therefore is infocus of our brief reminder.
