The chapter focuses on research and teaching staff who gave up their research or academic career and left academic science. It poses questions: who are the people who have left an academic position in the last 10 years, why did they leave, and what is their current gainful employment, and consequently what does this mean for the future of Czech academic science if it loses such people. The analysis is based on an online quantitative questionnaire survey aimed at former researchers and academics who have left an academic or research position at a public institution in the Czech Republic in the last 10 years.
