Original language description
Josef Sudek began photographing images of Czech modern painters at the instigation of a friend of the painter Jan Benda (1897-1967). He met with the painter František Tichý (1896 - 1961) It could be sometime in 1926-1927. Sudek commercial photography received broad clientele of customers, painters and sculptors who asked for reproducing their works. Artists, for whom he worked mostly belonged to the mainstream modernism, except Jindřich Štyrský and Toyen. A large collection of photographs Sudek made for virtually unknown painter Bedřich Vaníček (1895-1955), and then the young painter Andrei Bělocvětov. Sudek was well aware of the specifics of photographing sculpture. A large number of photographs he created for the sculptor Josef Wagner (1901-1957). Perhaps the most important Sudek´s partner of Czech artists was originally cubist painter Emil Filla.
