Stimulation-induced optical signals in rat spinal cord slices.
Original language description
We compared the changes in LTevoked by repetitive electrical stimulation or by exposure to NMDA with the decrease in the extracellular space (ECS) volume fraction induced by cell swelling and the activity-related rise in extracellular K+ (K+c).We suggestthat neuronal activity is an important source of intrinsic optical signals. Although LT increased and the ECS volume decreased during stimulation, there was no correlatio between intrinsic optical signals and ECS volume changes.
