The relationship between changes in intrinsic optical signals and cell swelling in rat spinal cord slices.

  • Original language description

The relationship between changes in intrinsic optical signals, extracellular space diffusion parameters and extracellular potassium was studied on rat spinal cord slices during electrical stimulation and the application of elevated potassium, NMDA or anisoosmotic solutions. Light transmittance changes did not correlate with changes in extracellular space volum, but were associated with neuronal activity and morphological changes in astrocytes.
