Glia and extracellular space in the aging brain.
Original language description
Long term changes in the physical and chemical parameters of the extracellular space accompany many physiological and pathological states, including aging. Diffusion parameters of the extracellular space, such as in extracellular space volume, tortuosity, non-specific uptake and diffusion anisotropy, can be measured by the real-time tetramethylammonium ionophoretic method. It is concluded, that the observed changes in extracellular space diffusion parameters during aging have important functional significance.
