Carriers of Stem Cells for Ocular Surface Reconstruction: Advantages of Nanifiber Scaffolds.
Original language description
Transplantation of stem cells represents the only way to treat severe ocular defects. However, stem cells have to be fixed on a suitable scaffold before transfer onto damaged ocular surface. Various types of carriers and several processing techniques have been tested. Nanofiber scaffolds prepared from synthetic polymers have turned out to be a convenient matrix for growth and transfer of stem cells. The ability to define the optimal properties of nanofibers makes these scaffolds promising tool for the transfer of stem cells to treat serious ocular defects.nn
