Nanomaterial Toxicity and Qualitative Risk Assessment of Nanomaterials
Original language description
Undeniable benefits of engineered NMs might be discredited by their potential enhanced or unexpected toxicity arising from nano-specific properties and behaviour. Lack of relevant validated methods and reliable data are responsible for high levels of uncertainty in both hazard characterization and exposure assessment. The battery of tests used conventionally for risk assessment should be enhanced by using set of in vitro toxicological assays such as evaluation of cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, oxidative stress and inflammation markers.
