Changes of E-cadherin expression and function in colorectal carcinoma cells.
Original language description
A reduction in cell adhesiveness is an essential step in tumour progression. In epithelial cells, the cell surface glycoprotein E-cadherin is a key molecule in the establishment of cell-cell adhesion. In addition to its contribution to cell adhesion,E-cadherin was found to induce ligand independent activation of EGFr kinase, likely as a result to their co-clustering. As it is well known that ligand activation of the overexpressed EGF receptor disturbs E-cadherin-mediated cell-cell adhesion,we analysed E-cadherin-EGF iteractions in several colorectal cancer cell lines.
