3-Way characterization of soils by Procrustes rotation, matrix-augmented principal components analysis and parallel factor analysis

  • Original language description

Three different approaches for 3-way analyses: Procrustes rotation, parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) and matrix-augmented principal component analysis were compared considering a 4-seasons study on soil pollution. Each season comprised 92 roadsoil samples and 12 analytical variables (heavy metals, loss on ignition, pH and humidity). Results show that the 3 chemometric techniques lead to essentially the same conclusions. Procrustes rotation, mathematical technique rarely applied in analytical chemistry, thus revealed as a potentially advantageous tool for 3-way data analysis, with conceptual simplicity and straightforward interpretation of results. A novel application of consensus vectors allowed definition of so-called consensus scores to allow visualization of samples and temporal patterns. The trilinearity assumption imbedded in PARAFAC seems essentially fulfilled when studying the temporal evolution of an environmental system where no new pollution sources appear during the study.

Charakterizace půd Prokrustovou rotací, analýzou MA-PCA a analýzou PARAFAC.
