Colour Terms and Their Oppositions in Czech Toponymy
Original language description
The article, departing from a detailed research in the field of colour terms found in toponyms in Bohemia, concentrates especially on the oppositions created by the individual colour terms in both settlement and non-settlement names. In the analysed material, the most frequent opposition is černý black? bílý white?. It is obvious that these adjectives are often used in some transferred, secondary, often even symbolical meaning. Also the issue of the space symbolism of colours, connected with old myths of many nations, is devoted some attention in the article.
