    E-T phase diagram of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal with re-entrand smectic C* phase

  • Original language description

    The phase transition behavior of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal, which was reported to exhibit a re-entrant phase transition (SmC*-SmCA*-SmC*-SmA in the order of increasing temperature) is studied under application of electric fields. By birefringence and dielectric measurements an electric-field-temperature (E-T) phase diagram was obtained. The E-T phase diagram shows that the SmCA* phase is isolated and disappears under high electric fields and. In addition, there is a boundary line between the high- and low-temperature SmC* phases.

    Byl prostudován vliv elektrického pole na fázový diagram antiferoelektrického kapalného krystalu, který vykazuje re-entrantní fázový přechod(SmC*-SmCA*-SmC*-SmA při rostoucí teplotě). Měření dvojlomu a permittivity umožnilo zkonstruovat E-T fázový diagram. Tento diagram prokázal, že SmCA* fáze je isolovaná a při dostatečně vysokých polích vymizí. Navíc byla pozorována hranice mezi vysokoteplotní a nízkoteplotní SmC* fází.
