Heat capacity in nonequilibrium steady states

Result description

We show how to extend the concept of heat capacity to nonequilibrium stochastic systems. We derive a general formula for the steady heat capacity in which an additional term appears to the usual energy?temperature response. Examples illustrate how it canbecome negative when far from equilibrium.
